A leak at the o ring where the y pipe and the inner transom shield is rare. Many of us run a half exhaust bellow, we wouldn't if a leak at that joint was usual.

With enough corrosion or improper install anyting is possible.

Its more likely your gimball bellow or steering pin is leaking.  It wouldnt be hard to test for a leak at that joint if you can get a hose into the exhaust bellow and spray a little water inside it while someoene inside looks for a leak.

    Hope that helps.

Yep, tuff one...what makes you think it's there and not one of the hundreds (jk) of other places our boats have? That's way down in the bottom...would be very hard to tell- for sure have to pull the motor

Id pull the drive, you'll find water in the u joint bellow if it's leaking from there. Takes longer to remove trim cylinder pins than it takes to remove the drive if you have an engine hoist of can fab an outdrive dolly

Yes, the drive is easy to pull...that getting back on can be a match..

Ive not had an issue remounting an outdrive so long as alignment is proper.  Off just a little and forget it.

I think physical ability, tools and patience have a good deal of play in this.
