Just bought 2 gallons from Amazon of QuickSilver 25W40. Thanks for all the input guys. Follow up question if you don't mind ? What are you guys using to draw your oil out from the motor ? I see a lot of hand pumps vs battery powered pumps. Be good to know what you guys are using that is reliable ?
This is the 12volt pump I bought last year and was very happy. Used hose barb to I believe 3/8 mpt and hooked up to transom drain hose. Took out all 4 1/2 quarts:
PickleRick, do you have diesels? I read that the Rotella 15w40 t4 is formulated for diesels. Can you use it for gasoline engines? Thanks.
Yes, my boat and all my vehicles are diesels. I run the t4 in all the shops 6.0 chevy trucks/vans after the warranty expires. I also ran it in all my wet clutch dozen or so motorcycles from a 77 cb550 to a 2008 Ducati monster.
It is formulated for heavy duty diesels. It doesn't have any of the anti friction modifiers you find in many of the full synthetic and synthetic blend oils that can cause wet clutches to slip. You'll not have the clutch issues in a marine applications.
The oil debate is as passionate and opinionated as politics or religion on any internet forum. Or the ever popular diesel hard tops are 10x better than gas soft tops debate that gets tossed around here from time to time.
Bobtheoilguy is a great forum to research compatible oils for your application. They are not brand/manufacturer loyal.

It goes on sale about once a year for about $50. Once I figured out how to use the garden hose connection, it worked great.
Others will have their own suggestions, but this one is working out great for me.
