Steering Cable replacement 97 Rinker 240

Along with my gas problem today this boat has got so hard to steer. Put new power steering cooling hose last year, changed fluid in power steering , greased ,oiled steering unit on back of motor.  Steering was pretty bad then. Almost need gloves to drive it. Do you have to take old cable out and measure, ck part number, ect, to get new one?  Does any company know what cable that boat takes without me having to remove and measure it. I'm not sure if its single or double cable. I just know it steers like crap!  Looks like soon I will be a boat mechanic if this keeps up. I need Merc mechanic with me just to go to lake.

The part number should be on the sleeve of the cable

I believe teleflex was the maker but the company has changed hand a couple of times. Pull the cable and match up the ends and length.
