Outdrive Reservoir

rwirerwire Member Posts: 12 ✭✭
I got the dreaded two beeps every three minutes the other day when I started her up. I found the outdrive reservoir about a 1/2" low.

I topped it it off and the beeping stopped. I used the boat all evening without issues.

We go to use the boat last night and same thing happens. So I checked the reservoir again and it was full.

I took the cap off and put it back on, started her up and no beeping. No issues all day.

Has anybody heard of that ?

Maybe air was trapped ?

Thanks

You need to remove the bottle and clean it the sensor is in the bottom of the bottle and it gets a crud build up

If it turns up low again, Check the cap. There should be an o-ring seal. My cap was missing the seal and I kept loosing lube. Nice to have a $10 fix once in a while.

As well, if crud gets on the SS pin that the low gear lube travels up and down on it can bind causing a false low level warning. No matter what it's something you want to check right away. Those drives are far too expensive to mess with. BTW if you have had the drive serviced recently I have sen the fill screw-in caps improperly installed as in loose, wrong O ring on them or pieces of an old O ring left in the hole then the new O ring and screw installed causing a slow leak. If the gear lube keeps going down I'm sure you know that you have to find the source. lowering gear lube is one thing water getting into the drive from a failing/failed seal is another level of expense. Of course you have checked to see if there is any sheen on the water after a run and the boat has been tied-up for a few minutes?

I have no reservoir anymore since replacing the XDP drive. I can't say I miss it.
