2005 Rinker 300, Merc 5.0 mpi, Bravo III.

What settings are you guys using while getting on plane and when cruising also when just above idle?

When at no wake speed, I usually have my drives all the way in.

When getting up on plane, all the way in.

Crusing, uncertain, seems like all the way in works with a trim tabs down a little bit.

You really don't want to change setting of the drives until you are up on plane.  Put the trim tabs down until you are up on plane (or close) and then put them up.  Then just a little up with the drives until the engines sound better (like they aren't working so hard).  Each boat is a bit different though and it also depends on your cargo (people/stuff on board).

When on plane I get my best speed with about 1/4 trim up. I can feel the boat pick up speed and well as verify it via GPS. Just curious to know if it equates to better mileage

yes much better mpg. with my drives down at 3800 rpm I get .9 mpg. trim up and the boat picks up about 3 knots more and the mpg moves between 1.0 to 1.1 mpg. ie less load and better speed. thats over 10% improvement on fuel consumption!
