Looking to buy a small(3”-4” pad) cordless buffer to do the Cockpit, dash area, above the rub rail, etc. Anyone have a reasonably priced recommendation?
Got a small AC/Delco 3" cordless. Works like a champ. About 20 mins per batt. Comes with velcro attachments. Sanding attachments work well to for other stuff.
Got a couple wool 3" pads to work with gel coat. Imagine you could get Milwaukee stuff, etc. But this seems to do the trick.
After doing some more research I’m thinking about buying a right angle cordless Dewalt and a 3” hook & loop buffing kit. At least I can use my existing 20v max batteries…. Hmmmm
@Cableguy Greg those are real nice… a bit more than I want to spend though. Was looking at a regular right angle cordless Dewalt drill with 3” buffing pads. Not going to be running it for hours on end, just for some small spots. I’d also put it to use in the shop as a regular drill/driver.
@diggin2day1 I like the idea. Definitely like that it is light weight. The one concern I would have is controlling the speed. Setting a specific speed is one of the things that sets a polisher apart from a grinder or drill.
I've got Ryobi, also. Threw away old Dewalt and Black and Decker tool sets last year because replacement batteries weren't available. Bought Ryobi because they promise their batteries will always be compatible with older tools. We'll see in a few years if I was foolish.
I’ve had mine for at least 5 years and other Ryobi tools longer. They add to the range, got a soldering station and jog saw last year and smaller buffer from one of the boys for Christmas. Have many batteries and a few chargers so never run out.
Nice! Looks nice and light too. A few mentioned Ryobi. I swear by them. Wife bought me a 5 piece set for Christmas 20 years ago and everything still works. Batteries are backwards and forwards compatible. Can quite often find a "Special" with tools and batteries for less or same as just the battery which is why I now own 3 drills, two circular saws, two radios, three flashlights etc. And they have the widest range of different tools by far over anyone else. I see them as good value for the money. My next purchase will be the handheld pressure washer that you can hook to a garden hose or even suck water right out of a lake, bucket, pool, whatever.
Completely agree on Ryobi. My 20 year old multi tool set is also going strong and I’ve added tools to it. Used to have to replace batteries every couple of years but the newer lithium with gauges have been lasting a long time. 4-5 yrs easy.
@diggin2day1 how did it go? I bought the same right angle drill for some work on the hardtop (didn't end up needing it) and debating return vs use as a buffer.
@YYZRC return it… I just tried it out today and it’s not good at all. Actually just logged on to report about it. I’m going to keep it as I’ll definitely put a nice right angle drill to good use, but I think I may try that Ryobi buffer that the guys have been talking about. Nothing wrong with having a few extra tools. Lol
Digin is it too slow to really get any polishing in? I find my cordless ryobi drills too slow to polish, I use a 3/8” corded makita to polish when I need to get to small areas because it’s very fast.
Hey fellas, I stand by that little 3" cordless. Excellent for nit picky jobs. Dash, cleats, around emblems. Certainly not for massive detail jobs. (I've done some damage in past with wheel buffers.) Also used the little 3" with velcro sanding discs to clean up nicks/scratches in stainless rubrail. Really slick little unit.
Whole bunch of makes of the little cordless 3" polisher/sanders out there.

I would love a small DeWalt unit for the same reason (one set of batteries).
Go Steelers!!!

I buy most of my Ryobi there at a great discount. It is the outlet store for Ryobi and owned by Ryobi. The remanufactured stuff is cheap and comes with a good warranty.
