How do you use your batteries?

I have a FV 270 with two batteries. One is the house (deep cycle) and the other is a starting battery.  Here’s the way I use them: I always keep the selector on battery 1, the house deep cycle. Both batteries will charge on the shore power or alternator. The starting battery is just insurance in case I were to deplete the house battery when we overnight or hang out all day on anchor. Am I doing it correctly?  Seems to make sense to me.

Similar except I keep mine on the starting battery.  When anchoring I switch to #2...and back to #1 when I pull anchor.

Guess I’m doing it backwards.  I’ll change my strategy.

I would do it as you have been, that way if you forget and run down the battery while anchored you still have the starting battery at 100%.....

My switch is On - Off - Combine, so really the same as yours just different labeling. On is just house battery and I've killed it lots of times with the stereo and the starting is always perfect.
