Kill the cockpit sink?

I will never use the sink/blender in the cockpit.  I need a new fridge for the cockpit as my Waeco is on her last legs.

Any reason I can't take a sawzall to the cockpit sink and insert a bigger fridge?  Seems like I could go from a 65 to an 80 if the sink wasn't in the way...

Yes but you can use a multi tool as well

Rarely use the cockpit sink in our boat either. Only if something really messy has occurred.

So, replace the counter top with ???

I would have a new countertop made in the winter but really no need to replace. The sink is hidden under the countertop.

Another bonus - one less faucet to winterize!

Gas the sink then. Keep some extra bottles of water in the new bigger fridge.

Did you ditch the ice maker?  It looked like it was gone in the one pic. Wondering if you could bigger fridge over there?  I like my sink, but that is personal preference.  No reason you can't remove it. I kind of get it, those little fold up sinks take a lot of space are kind of crappy.  I actually removed my blender when I first got the boat. Put in an inverter and now use a magic bullet. You can always put a regular sink in further back where blender is if you missed it.

I did ditch the ice maker. I built a cabinet that lives in its place.

I could try positioning the fridge where the ice maker was, but I would have to patch a lot of areas to make it work.

You asked for opinions -- I say do it.  A sink is useful, but less useful than fridge space and counter space.

My 342 sink was very handy when we were fishing

I like having a sink on deck.  I probably would miss it.

We use our cockpit sink a lot with our daughters. I do wish it was in a different location because it takes up so much counter space. I say go for it, make it so it can be reversible somehow so a future owner can put one back in if they want.

I think this is one of those projects that can’t be done well and still be reversible. I will measure up the space this week to see how big of a fridge I can get in and where. I like @Dream_Inn ’s idea - not impossible that I could follow his advice and put the fridge where the ice maker was, thus killing the blender recess instead of the sink.

@JimGuy341 it’s long gone! I upsized the fridge from 65 to 80 and added a pull out storage cabinet.

@YYZRC nice work.  Any chance you have the old storage cabinet you used to replace the ice maker?
