Aero3113..Yes..thats the plan. ..back into the water on friday...and yes..Bellows are not the newest..wanted the beast to at least float for another year..will check the water heater..but if that bottom bellow..(big one)... has a large gaping crack in it..that can not get water into the boat right?
Lower large exhaust bellows cannot let water in but the upper driveshaft definitely can. If that is the problem make sure to check the gimbal bearing and universal joint as they will be exposed to water. Especially if you are in salt water they will probably need replacing
Right no problem with the exhaust if your changing one do all of them I would also replace the bearing and shift cable at the same time You can back the boat in on a trailer and raise and lower the drive to see if thats where the leak is actually coming from
Thanks guys...fridays the day..of the big nothing burger.."easy fix"or the day of "bust out another $3000."...and half the season gone down the tubes...I will let you know when we get back from the lake..thanks again everyone! Just wanted one ... season... not ruined..by shop time..
On another note..trim is sticky..worked O.K. last year after a (working..not working) period in the spring..I hope it clears up again with some use..one can only hope, for a break, and some luck.. at this point..I better renew the sea -tow.now that I think about it..at this point.
The shift boot is more than likely the source of your water. I just replaced mine, which was 5 years old. It broke late last summer at the smallest rib, so I was still able to use the boat because when the drive was down, I wasn’t taking on much water. When I would raise the drive to pull the boat out, it would come in pretty good.

Hitting the log,was major damage... ..gears messed up..whole mercruser unit needs to be dismantled..and redone..the leak was only part of it...found a shop that said it could handle it..hoping that the summer wont be a total loss..crap....boats?...gotta love um!...or...
Welcome to the club. The first weekend I owned my 270 the motor fell apart and needed to be replaced, along with the transom assembly. 20k repair a few weeks after buying the boat. I don't know how I slept at night, but I did.

I would put the boat back in the water and leave it on the trailer and inspect every area for a leak. Shouldn’t be that hard to find.
