Engine Hatch

While raising my hatch I stopped to do something and when I resumed the hatch wouldn't work at all. I then tried using the emergency posts and it wouldn't work with that either. So my hatch is stuck about 5" open.

Is there one of those pop fuses at the helm that might have tripped?

Breaker is good. I actually checked it with a meter to be sure

@raybo3 try disconnecting the plug to the motor and plug it back in. Also try checking for power at the plug.

I just checked the schematic and the emergency posts are after the breaker so yes not the cause. That hatch is very heavy you might have to brace it with a couple of 2x4s and gain access through the table post deck brkt to the pin at the top of the ram to pull it if you can't get at it  though the 5" gap. Then a couple of strong guys to lift the hatch open and brace it again.

@aero3113 no plug at motor looks like crimps. Once open I will definitely check those

@raybo3 do you have to reverse on the emergency post = to make it go down ?

Yes but nothing from the emergency posts either. Pulling the pin tomorrow and hopefully find the problem.  I gutta get it lowered because I am going away this coming weekend

Be sure and have a prop to secure it when you pull the pin. It will smash ya. ask me how I know?

Yeah going to put blocks under it. Did you get hurt bad? That think is heavy. Does anyone know of a replacement motor for it?

I think the hatch is around 350-400 pounds dead lift weight.

I like the optimism in @raybo3 getting through a 5” gap…

I believe there are fuses behind the battery panel for the hatch. Might want to check those.

Looked behind battery panel and no fuses or relays for hatch. There was a relay but that was for the bilge pump. @Ian the 5" gap is just for pulling the pin...lol

So the pin will have the weight on it and you won’t just pull it. You will need to not only block the hatch but lift by about 1/8” to get it out.

Yeah I have 4 guys going to help me tomorrow. Hopefully I can get the new one real fast. I am going to have to messure it to see what I need.

Quick update. The old actuator is out. Bad crimp caused motor lead to burn up and motor is toast. Could not find a direct replacement but found some very close for $66.00. Called a motor repair company and they wanted (are you sitting down?) $2000.00 to rewind the old one. So I used the link that @Ian sent me and bought a new "after" market one for $225.00. Wont be here till the 7th so I will update then.

I checked stroke on mine - 18” and 24” full length. How was pulling the pin?

Pulling pin was easy. I had 4 guys with me from the club. Here is a side note. Major flaw by Rinker, the hatch was up around 6" and the transom door is shut. The emergency post are in the switch box behind the door that can't be closed. Had to remove the door and luckily the battery box door was still above the hatch even though it didn't work. Very poor design. This is the one I bought.
