    Guys, I get what you're saying.  My point is: for a minimal cost, you can eliminate a point of failure, and make it IMPOSSIBLE for the VHF to be on with no GPS feed.

    So, maybe a little late to the party (some of us boat all weekend and don't get on here), but just buy a handheld with GPS.  That is the best to have to take with you and works great as a backup.  I actually have two handheld with GPS, cause you never know.  & yes I always turn on my GPS before I even start my engines.  But, that handheld you can take with you...you know, just in case you have a little vapor explosion in the engine room. :wink:

    Added my MMSI and still no luck...I'm getting really aggravated with this whole system.  It has to work.  I'm missing something.
