i have had both bravo driven boats and VP driven boats, at this point i would pay more for a VP boat then a Merc boat. I have done bravo uppers, lowers, steering pins, and entire transom assemblies. I just feel VP puts out a better engineered product. Just my thoughts...
The XDP composite drive fiasco really hurt Volvo-Penta's reputation in the U.S. The Ocean X I replaced mine with seven years ago has been a solid performer and trouble-free. The engines of that era are just GM small or big blocks same as Merc.
However Merc is clearly dominant and better known by mechanics, especially outside major cities. V-P genuine parts are pricey, that is true, and so I try to find alternate sources if they are just rebranded AC-Delco parts as some are, as an example. Andy.
