You inspired me to do some reading, followed by watching this 3-part series on the 1967 racing season. Seems very much like car racing in that era, where the driver's physical stamina matters as much as anything else.

At one point, it says: "And if you sink an offshore racing boat, say goodbye to thirty thousand dollars!" But even with inflation, that's only $262k today. Seems like a bargain compared to modern racing boats!
Can’t imagine blasting over to Nassau with one of those on your melon.
