MMSI number

Bought a new VHF. As I understand it I enter the MMSI number when I first turn it on and that is the only opportunity. Have not powered yet. Where do I get that number?

It doesn't need to be the first time it's powered up, it can be at anytime but you can only enter the MMSI once (at least that's how mine worked) -- so make sure you enter it correctly otherwise the whole unit has to be sent back to the manufacturer to clear out the number for reprogramming. Not sure why they don't make owner reprogrammable units.

That is what I read also...I did a little searching but did not come up with anything to find the accesory cable..any ideas?

To connect the GPS to the radio..my manual for the radio shows a cable connection, not connecting wires...

Some GPS  units (my old Hummingbird was one) require a pigtail adapter connected to the back of the unit to attach the NMEA wires from the radio to. It will be brand specific Ras and can likely be ordered online. But as long as both GPS and radio have the right color wires hanging off the back you can also just direct connect.

Yea if your GPS does not have a wire coming off of it, then you need a cable from the GPS Manufacturer. For my Raymarine Axiom there is a Ray cable coming off of the NEMA 0183 network bar in my helm which is for sending GPS data. It has the yellow and green wire coming out of it, for the VHF to tie in to. I was lucky the PO had it there already from when he installed the Raymarine system so I was plug and play but you should be able to buy the adaptor cable. That said its probably worth it for you to skip the cable and just pay $50 more for a GPS enabled VHF. You can get an Icom M330G from the GPS Store for $200 delivered and it has a built in GPS so no cable needed. Same with the Standard GX1400G for $168 delivered.
