Can I replace a Volvo impeller on the water?

With all the recent chatter on impellers I realized I’m overdue. Last time I had the marina replace them since I just didn’t have the time. This time I’d like to do them myself, but wasn’t sure if that can be done on the water … or if I should add it to the long list of things to do before launch?  I have this bad vision of a lot of water coming in quickly once I pull the housing off.   Anyone know if the water pump is above or below the water line?  Any good tips?  ‘06 342 with Volvo’s. Thanks.

    I did my Volvo in the water - it is way easier/quicker than Merc to change and yes water will come in. I stuffed the line with a rag while swapping the impeller out.

    Yes very easy to do in the water, that's the only way I have done it.

    Well guess what I did today...... burnt up my impeller and had to replace it on the water 😂

    Bummer. I’m happy to hear it’s no problem on the water. It’s supposed to rain this weekend straight through next week, so it’s going to be a mad scramble up here to get ready for launch once the weather clears. Once less thing to do will help. Thanks all!

    This is what I use on mine, I think all volvos may be the same 🤔.
