Kohler Generator Kohler Model 5E Control Box Smoking when first started in spring?
Started generator on spring launch started right up then i noticed smoke from control panel. main breaker was open so no load. Shut it right down. I will recheck all connections and retry anything I should look for. It ran great all last year. Stored in heated storage.

I’d start looking around with a mirror for black wires and connections. Start with the board.

So it is defiantly this board that is smoking any experts on her or anyone have seen this problem?

Any oil get on that connector to go puff, ? No clue!

Its the voltage regulator board for the generator, it adjusts the field voltage on the rotor to keep the stator voltage steady when load changes. I believe I can disconnect it and start generator to verify it still runs then find a new board. Anyone have a scrapped 5E control box laying around.

It is located in the control box mounted on generator. board is circled in red.

I seldom have looked at that panel in that last picture... I know what start stop is but what are does a/c circuit breaker do and are those post or fuses on there?

That is the 12 volt start stop control circuit fuses and for control and field 12v supply.
Circuit breaker is for generator output.
