Hill Marine Bravo 3 Stainless Steel Swivel Shaft

Anyone used one of these.  I'm hearing at my marina that these stainless steel swivel shafts are subject to shearing versus the OEM part which is hardened steel.  Anyone have any advice or experience with the Hill Marine Stainless part.  Thanks.

I would not pay the premium for Hill Marine. It is a simple part. Lots of options on Amazon. I used these:

The stainless shearing comment is bull. The Seacore transom assemblies come with a stainless steering pin and you can order a stainless pin from Mercury (part # 866718A01).

The non-stainless pin will rust which causes the seal to fail prematurely. I believe the problem is exacerbated on our boats because the steering pin is always submerged.

I would recommend an aftermarket stainless steel pin and OEM seals.

I went with a stainless pin from JR Marine in Westlake, OH.  Ron was a big help with questions I had.
