On the soft top in my 4 runner I used black foam pipe insulation found at my local hardware store. Looks like a skinny pool noodle with a slit going all the way up the side. I can't remember if it was 1/2" or 3/4, was the smallest ID I could find. I cut it to fit the length of my poles. Used a band of electrical tape to secure it at each end so it won't blow away when I take the side windows off and hit the highway at 65 to 75mph speeds.
My soft top is built entirely out of parts/canvas/glass/zippers/poles and hardware you can order from west marine or defender marine supply.
I looked at the rolls of sticky back felt you can get on Amazon but was worried it would damage my tinted glass more than the foam insulation
My side windows flap pretty hard when I have the back window rolled down. They flap to the point it sounds like a snapping a wet towel when I get a long side a big rig on the freeway.
I don't leave my camper packed up unless I'm staying on it and I don't think any of the clear even contacts the poles- but on my mooring cover it contacts the rear rail along the transom bench- and seems to be messing up the cover where it contacts. Suppose these would have helped? I tried to put a pool noodle to reduce contact and maybe this is about the same thing?
