Cold Start Extra Beep

YYZRCYYZRC Member Posts: 5,419 ✭✭✭✭✭
Merc 6.2s with BIII drives

My startup sequence is as follows:
Blower
Both keys on (beep tone for each), wait for electronics to boot up
Start port engine
Start starboard engine

When I start port, I get an extra beep while cranking. Doesn’t happen on starboard. Doesn’t happen when the engines are warm.

Can’t find anything in the beep manual.

Ideas?

Maybe it's a voltage dropout from a weak battery or bad connection.  Can you watch the battery voltages while starting?  See if the port voltage dips lower than the starboard.

Same routine. My engines do the same. 2nd engine doesn't beep. This occurs even if you start them in the opposite order. For me I noticed it when I connected everything up to the smartcraft gateway.

On my 342 there was a period of the same. Started doing it but no explanation and later that summer it went away and never came back.

I just tried it starboard first and starboard didn’t have the extra beep but port did. Will keep messing around.

Will swap port and starboard batteries and see if that does it. Thanks @ian

Also check the key switch connectors. I had one that was not “loose” but not tight either, slid off without really pulling sp that may have been a contributor.
