Shift cable

Well got to the ramp today, what an s show. Figured it would start to taper off, fall is next weekend...started, pulled off the trailer and pulled over to the dock. Parked
Back to the boat-starts, untie...no gear shift ...thought: outdrive? Coupler? I raise the hatch and move the handle and the throttle moves but I don't see anything shifting..upper and lower cable right? I'm sure I replaced the lower when I pulled the motor.
,*************
Update- so I think when I started the boat I pushed the button on the control handle/shifter to advance the throttle to start. I'm thinking it stuck when I brought it back to neutral. There was no resistance on the handle...when I got home and tested the shifter it was hard as soon as I pushed it...anyone have that button stick? This weekend back to the ramp.
