Stern drives position in relation to steering.

Does anybody knows where I can get a gauge to indicate the position of stern drives in relation to the steering. But not the type that goes in the middle of the steering as sold by west marine and others. Thanks for any advice. Paul Québec

That mechanical one from West Marine is perfect for us.  Simple, and it improved my close quarters maneuvering by orders of magnitude when I stuck it on.  Let us know what you come up with.

Mercury makes a gauge which I am going to add when I replace the Faria gauges this winter.

Hi Tony. I have read negative comment on that system but as usual we should not believe everything we read on the Internet . My main concern was that if the steering is turn 1times around or even 2 to 3 would this system tell you when the stern drives are back straight ?? Thanks Paul

Yes this simple unit keeps track of the turns.  Always comes back to straight.  The only time it might go bonky on you is in extremely extremely rough and pounding sea conditions.  So that is not a practical problem.  I get a lot of value out of mine and relative to everything else boating, they are cheap.

I'd love to have the smartcraft one as well (since I have vesselview) but at over $300, that is a bit much just for steering sensor.
