2002 MPI engine struggling "under load"

Compression test came back fine on one engine.  Trouble getting up on plane.  Like the title said, the tech stated the engine is struggling under load.  Last year we had the fuel injectors cleaned.  Anyone have an idea of where to look?

Replace cap and rotor also. Also check the props for anything hanging up in them or growth.

If not done within the last two seasons, start by replacing cap, rotor, and spark plugs. Check wires to ensure they are in good condition.

Get fuel pressure gauge and keep an eye on it as engine struggles. Antisiphon valve could be hanging up and causing lack of fuel? Check that timing is advancing?

What is the make and model of the boat, and size/model of the engine and drive?

Ethanol has been the culprit for a handful of fuel lines.  They soften up in the process of weakening, and they can collapse under pressure, creating a bottle neck.

Marine engineers consider a single small block 5.7 or even 5.0 Chevy an acceptable power plant in boats over 20 ft

With 5 bucks worth of fuel, nothing on board except required safety equipment, you and the salesman...yes it's fine. Especially with a brand new slick unpainted hull

Kits toys, adult toys, drinks and food.  Stereo system.  100 of extra crap you'll never use but is there "just in case" plus the family and everyone's friends.

It doesn't take much for her to start lacking in the  performance department.

Buying cheap eBay/Amazon service parts like plug wires and distributor will also make for a bad day on the water.

One poster here showed pics of his deteriorating OEM mercruiser plug wires after just a few seasons.   There are only a handful of quality aftermarket plug wires and they are usually for performance application. Racing or high horse power builds.   These are fine, actually better, so long as they match the ohm specs your ignition system demands.  The OEM plug wires do look a little like spaghetti.  These stock boat motors are not high performance, but they do see loads that I wouldn't wish on a Chevy 1500 pickup with a nearly identical engine.
