New GPS/fishfinder/Radar

Hello All,

Sitting at home in the North East in a big snow storm with boating on my mind. I own a 2004 Rinker 342. I’m thinking about upgrading my Lowrance Elite 5 gps with a better Lowrance or Garmin. What are your thoughts on a good one?

    I have a 2006 342. When I bought the boat, it had already been upgraded with Garmin GPSMap 942xs Plus and a GMR 18 HD+ radar dome. It came in a bundle with sonar, but I don't know it's model number. Overall I'm very happy with it. It fits perfectly where the original Lowrance was mounted.

    I'm pretty sure my chartplotter is obsolete now. They have the GPSMap 943xsv, which should also fit in that area, and is compatible with more devices.

    For the fishfinder functionality here ... if you do want performance, everyone on the fishing communities will recommend you change the transducer that comes with the fishfinder ... keep that in mind.

    It's another direction for ya, but don't sleep on the HummingBird Helix series.  I absolutely love mine.

    I like Garmin for the ease of use, but they make things obsolete and no longer available too quickly. Needed a power cord for a GPSmap years ago only to be told NLA. Furuno makes great instruments, the company stands behind whatever they make, and they last, but they are not cheap and there is a bit of a learning curve
