My local West Marine closed down last season. I just came across this post this morning.

The WM stores here in the DC area seem to be in decline, but I think that's because there aren't enough boats here.  Southern Florida is a different story because there are so, many, boats.  WM stores there are all huge and well-stocked.

I don't see WM going away, but I'd hate to see them close the stores here.  When you need 'em, you need 'em!

I wish they were a bit more competitive. Last summer they changed their rewards program and its just not worth it anymore. I was even able to get some parts shipped overnight from other suppliers cheaper than if I picked up in store at WM.

I have some “inside knowledge” of WM and things have been in a spiral for a few years, especially when the ex CEO of Michaels stepped in and tried to run it like them. Some of their approaches were just plain stupid. I’d say the new CEO with better aligned background used this approach to reorg and come back better.
