Sold the house boat, back to the rinker!
Wouldn't you know, just half a year after buying the bigger boat (37 egg harbor that hadn't moved from it's slip in 6 years, motors did run though!) to use as a base to live on in the keys, my employer starts offering "employee housing" for 500/month. Now this isn't a huge place at all, it's more like a very nice hotel room, with a small little place to cook..
After a year of trying that out it seemed to work well. Employer has agreed the apartment is mine until I don't work for the place anymore. Took a hit on sale price of course but we are back to the rinker and loving it.
She's been a pretty decent tiny apartment in the keys. Fits perfectly in a nice size side tie-up dock slip.. sure I'm still after that Sea ray venture 370, but for now this is the place to be in the 270.
Looking around - she needs some work of course.
Biggest thing is I can tell that steering pin will need to be replaced.
- I assume the same two methods apply, and no one has come up with a new one. One where the motor and everything come out and the other where you drill a couple holes right into the the transom assembly and replace that way. I'm def not going to have time or patience to do the drill method myself, not sure I'd trust a keys mechanic to do it either. Anyone seen anything new on this repair? Maybe some special tool was made in the last few years that doesn't need the engine to be pulled?
- Ordered a new dashboard kit from fpmarine.. was thrilled to see they have one for the boat.
- Need to address the old carpet. It's got to go. Anyone have an opinion on how to pull it out without breaking your back?
- New steering wheel is on the menu
- Seats need to be redone top side
- Spotlight doesn't move up and down, not that I really need this just listing it out.
- Engine room needs a general clean up/overhaul.
- Life has been busy, had a few people pass away this past year or two, so I really have slacked on engine maintenance aside from oil/filter changes. On the other side of the equation, I really haven't put many hours on her in the last two years, maybe 30 or so per year as my fav destination is about 10 mins away and my friends with larger boats all have small boats, so it easier to just jump on one of theirs..
If anyone has any experience doing any of these things and has some advice I'd appreciate your thoughts! If not, just wanted to say hello again!
ps. So happy to not have two boats in the keys anymore, one of them being a 37 that I'm not sure if it would move under its own power without a major leak!!
