Insurance survey

Our boast is a 2006 ( i think ) and it's just recently received a notice from my insurance company Ahoy  I would need a survey done in the next 12 months that is certified here, there and everywhere,  or, I fill out a form with some pictures and do it myself.  That is just a tad odd to me...but I never got old before either. Is this common?

I had Ahoy last season. Renewal time came and they told me they don't cover my manufacturer which seemed odd to me as they were currently insuring my boat.

2001, boat and trailer coverages.  No survey as of yet.  Full coverage of replacement value.  Ski safe

I think over a certain size and under a certain year, you need to get an insurance survey every 5 years. Not sure the size or year 😂.

Were you trying to insure a rinker or another brand?

But they allow you to do it yourself? I was talking with my neighbor about boat expense and the insurance subject came up and he asked me why I have insurance? He has none. No liability, zip.

No, I had to have a professional surveyor do the inspection. He had to write a report that I submitted to the insurance company.

Tell him you buy insurance because if you have the wrong sort of boat accident, you don't want the lawsuits to strip you of everything you've ever owned.   :#

That is odd. How can they assure that you are checking all the structural things that a surveyor would. I have to get one done this spring. They stated that a licensed surveyor must do the inspection out of the water.

No insurance is pretty scary. Almost as much as self survey. Betting insurance company has there self covered if things go wrong.

That is a good point. I will look over carefully the paperwork and the fine print. Perhaps they are loosely calling it a survey to make sure they are not insuring a total piece of junk.

I kind of pointed that out, not much different than driving a car...florida is a tuff state...you can't sue someone out of their home.  Retirements are somewhat protected. That being said, it would be a heck of a legal mess at best and I would not want to f some family when I'm at fault. I'm insurance poor. People in Florida don't think much of auto insurance either. 75% of florida drivers are either way under insured or have none at all- florida requirements are basically a 10000 medical coverage for yourself- no liability or property damage requirement! I have under/no insured protection on my policy- its the single largest line item on my policy. I have it on the boat as well.

My six month old car was rear ended last year by uninsured 18 year old girl driving car with expired plates. Thankfully we have uninsured motorist coverage. 13k in damage. Fun
