I'm hoping they never run out of fudgesickle sticks and start using popsicle sticks in their stead, and then I gotta worry about where those have been...

Or my employer, who switched over 3 years ago: $10,000 deductable, then 91/10% and we pay about $6k for a family.

No matter how it's sliced, though, unless you're one of the 545 elite or working directly for the 545 elite, we're all torched... A million times I've said it: we're witnessing behavior consistent with being looted, by those already aware the ship is sinking without hope of recovery, and before it becomes common knowledge..

Al - That's great of you, keep it up and you'll get payback in good work and loyalty.  Public companies sadly are purely about making double digit profits every year, and they'd sell your soul for a dollar.  I work with a few private companies and they treat their employees far better generally.  You keep your employess around too!

I'd support a business that treats its employees well over one trying to 'race to the bottom' on pay/benefits to inflate profits. Cheap does not imply quality. Just my .02

The issue with Obama Care is that for companies with over 50 employees, it will be difficult to maintain their current insurance due to all the regulations of Obama Care. So far in my life I have not seen anything that is run by the government that a private business couldn't do better, cheaper, and still make a profit. Hard to compete with Obama Care when they have no payroll to meet or books to balance. Al sounds like your business is doing well and will probably continue grow, continue to take care of your employees and everything else in your business will run great.

Its hard to find people who will admit to voting for him now.  I hope the people who are not happy show up for the next election and do not just say my vote will not count anyway.  that's what got us into this mess.

Al, you were always a "class act" in my opinion, for what that may be worth. If we are lucky enough in our lives there may come a time where we are given an opportunity to act as " people of good conscience" and can really make a difference. It usually costs those people, in some fashion, to do so but they do it anyway - for the greater good of others. It is those people who advance society and hold at bay the dog eat dog forces of greed and evil. Stand proud and take your place, Al. If your health plan helps one of the children of one the families you have covered, you have earned a place by St.Peter. Soooo - Some day (not  yet) but some day, you will be haulin' it straight through the gates of Heaven with a pair of 500s screaming and bouncing right off the rev limiters - right behind your rig (The Supra Beast?). There IS a book of honst men doing good deeds, kept by they who decide. Contralutions . MT

ditto MT- My wife read a post on face book this am from a good girl friend of hers and the family is way to the right- I respect their right to be there. The post went on to say how the country is going to **** in a hand basket because of the current administration. We can discuss what happened by the end of the Bush years, whether the bailouts should have been done or not an on and on and on. Fact is, we are still here. Not where we want to be maybe but here. That pendulum will swing the other way. The richest of the rich are making hay while the sun shines, while labor is cheaper from a pushed down worked force that is happy to have a job right now. When unemployment gets lower and the pool of good workers gets smaller, that pendulum swings the other way. That's the way this country works. I wanted to ask this person on face book that if she really feels this way, her family should pay back all the unemployment she collected for two years while she sat on or **** and did nothing.  All their kids (some of them may not even be here legally!) collect medicaid for their kids, free lunches at school, on and on and on. Pay it all back and THEN come and tell me how bad this country is. The good people in this country, like Al, will rise to the top. We can't be the "most developed" country in the world with kids that don't eat and don't have a good education, families that don't have a future or get wiped out due to illness, the number one reason of bankruptcy for the middle and lower class. It has to change and we have had over 200 years trying to figure it out. The change started with Affordable Health Care act- it to will change and hopefully turn into something that does good for all of us. The previous healthcare system was making the rich richer and not doing anything to take care of the poor and middle class that footed the bill. Make our congress pay for their own healthcare and this issue would have been solved a long time ago.

It now costs $50,000 per person that's enrolled and almost 3 Trillion dollars total. 3 times the original estimate. Did anyone doubt this would happen?
  • Black_DiamondBlack_Diamond Member Posts: 5,439 ✭✭✭✭✭
Since the ACA is 100% private insurance company run, the only cost to the goverment is the subsidies.  So it cannot cost $50k per person, no plan costs that unless you went and got some crazy zero deduction plan..and even then...unless the $50k is the 10-year estimated cost (like the $3 trillion number you mentioned)

But you can thank all your health insurance companies for the costs...and the massive profits.  If you think the new Congress can undo this: watch the insurance lobby stop that in its tracks. lol

So my huge question to people who are anti ACA: What's the solution to uninsured people in the USA?  What about pre-existing condition coverage?  Remember, hospitals must, by federal law, treat anyone coming in their doors.  And those who cannot pay end up being paid for by those who do have insurance by higher premiums.

You can always go to a pay up front or no care policy.  It will reduce the population.

Just food for thought, not stirring for a 'fight'!

A bombshell report from the Congressional Budget Office reveals that it will cost the federal government $50,000 for every person who gets health insurance under Obamacare law.

According to the Daily Mail.com, the astounding figure was "buried" in a 15-page section of the nonpartisan organization's budget forecast for the next 10 years.
The CBO said that in a best-case scenario, "'between 24 million and 27 million" fewer Americans would be uninsured in 2025, compared to the year before the Affordable Care Act was implemented, the Mail noted.

And the report estimated that the price tag for insuring that number of people would be about $1.35 trillion  or $50,000 per person.

The CBO says it cost $1.993 trillion for insurance subsidies to struggling Americans, and to pay for a widespread expansion of Medicaid and Children's Health Insurance Program.

The amount would be offset by $643 billion in new taxes, penalties and fees related to the Obamacare law, according to the report, the newspaper said.
