anodes on a Bravo 3

Hi,

Wondering if and when the anodes are put on from the factory? I just picked up a boat from a fresh water marina where the boat was purchased new.
I have brought it down to the coast and will be using it in the salt water. Do they come stock from the factory with zincs for fresh water or are they usually ok in the salt water too?
I know magnesium is the preferred fresh water system and it is NOT good for salt water. Thanks for any help. I may just to be safe change them all.

Every one I have ever bought in the Great Lakes region was set up for fresh water

Personally if you don't know and someone cannot definitely confirm what is on it then I would just order new ones and put zinc on it if you are always in salt It's not worth taking the chance. I also recommend adding the prop nut anode but I think they are on the newer drives anyway. I thought I read somewhere that they come new with aluminum on them because that is supposed to be best for both but again I wouldn't take the chance.

I would play it safe and change all of them. I purchased a boat in Maryland and brought it back to Pittsburgh and changed them to Magnesium for the fresh water. I didn't want to take any chances.

If you do purchase new ones the best price I found was at boatzincs.com.

They usually arrive in less than a week.

New Zincs best for straight salt water. MT (aluminum = salt/brakish water, magnesium = fresh water)
