noise

Hi Guys,
Hey I just started my 246 and it ran great until I engaged the prop and the engine started to squeal. I think its the belt. May be I got some antifreeze on it during winterization and ist slipping. What do you think. Long winter, I want to go boating! Its an 08 with low hours so I'm hoping its not serious. Thanks

I would start at the belt and go from there

I would try to get a better estimate of where the noise is coming from, a belt slipping would be independent of shifting into gear since no loads are added to the belt driven components.  If it squealed from turning (PS pump) that's a different story.  If it squeals when you increase rpm (even without being in gear) then you can chase the belt issues.  Look at belt tension (too much tension has it's problems too!), your idler condition, belt condition (cracking/glazed) and look for rust on the pulleys.  Don't use belt dressing compounds.

I'd be looking for the sound coming from the engine to outdrive connection.
