Hi Guys,

Plan on launching in the Ohio river in Cincinnati this season for a cruise. Possibly around the 4th of July Holiday. Any recommendations on where to launch, what to see, boat friendly restaurants, attractions, etc..

We keep our boat at 4 seasons marina. Great outdoor tiki bar and rest. Fuel on site and sea ray of Cincinnati is walking distance for any supplies. There are several public launches near by or you can launch from rivertown or Washington marine. You will need to call them ahead to see if they charge as they are private. I hope this helps.

There is a site called boatlocal.com that is trying to get more presence in Cincy. The site is big in Pittsburgh and Louisville.

Hi Guys I've run up and down the Ohio for a long time then got out of boats. I've decided it was time to relax again. I have a slip at HarbourTown Marina. My son in law and kids and I are planning on making the trip to 3 rivers to catch a game and float back to Cincy. He travels to Pittsburgh for 2 days every other week. We thought this would be a good get away, 440 miles round trip.

That would be a cool trip. I hope you are planning on going to PNC Park for the game and not Three Rivers Stadium. All that is left of that place is a marker and parking lot. LOL. There are a couple of big weekends up here... One is the Kenny Chesney concert at Heinz Field on May 30. The wall at both stadiums will be packed, so docking will be at a premium. The following weekend it Taylor Swift, but I can't imagine a ton of boats for that one. Rumor has it the Stones are going to play at Heinz Field, but that hasn't been confirmed. Check out the boatlocal.com/pittsburgh site for info on what is happening in the 'burgh. They have a calendar that shows pretty much everything.

I am hoping to do Morgantown to Marietta again this year. Not  as long as Pittsburgh to Cincy (274 miles), but I believe that I will go through more locks (13) :-)

We were going to 'lock' the River from Pittsburgh to Cincy and back for our vacation, however, I have been scared off since they said at times there could be a 2 day wait on a lock.

The only time that there is a long wait at a lock is when one of the chambers is down for repair. If you check the ACOE site, it will give you the maintenance schedule for all of the locks in the system. They try to do most of the maintenance in the fall. The 2 day wait seems a little excessive. The longest wait that we have had around Pittsburgh was 12 hours. That is because the large chamber was out for repair and the barges had to break apart to lock thru the small chamber.
