I just replaced my Merc 270 airdeck. I'll offer some thoughts:
If it will be in the sun a lot, esp down south a PVC type will not last long, hypalon is the better material, but it is more expensive. Beware buying an older PVC type.

How many people do you need to carry? My 270 airdeck was 8'-4" long and 3 adults was pushing it.

A RIB is a better buy (rigid hull inflatable). You might scour craigslist.

You'll spend some $$ to for davits for mounting on the swim platform. The 3.3 Merc is good, you'll never go fast but it is light and dependable. I use the same motor on my 9.5 AL RIB.

Westmarine was having a dinghy sale.

I use a west marine PSB-275, with the weaver davits.  Works great, 9' length with 5' beam, holds 4 people nicely.  The 3.3 will not push it very fast, but will put around great.  You could get the dinghy and davit system for your $1500.
