Mine stay on a key float like the one at the link below. I also keep my registration card in it so its handy if pulled over on the water. Back in the day when I smoked it was also good for a couple of dry smokes and matches/lighter!! The key and float stay in the boat. A spare boat key is kept in the truck. If the truck keys are not left in the truck then they are usually deposited into a waterproof bag along with my wallet and other valuables or items to keep dry, which is placed into the boat glove box for the duration (see the second link below).
I have my keys on a float but when I am not using them I put them in the blender compartment. I also made about 4 spares and they are also in the blender compartment.
