Mike from what I understand there 2 thermostats on the boat. One in the cabin and one at the heat/ac unit. How they work with each other I don't know. All I know is I have to set the thermostat lower to maintain the temp in the cabin where I want the temp to be. I am thinking the household thermostat you mentioned is a thermometer not a thermostat. There have been discusions on here about this.
Maybe a search will help or someone will chime in that knows more about this.
MT, you can calibrate the thermostat, I do it every year on my boat. You need the manual though to figure out how to get into the settings and find the temp calibration. You can add or subtract degrees as you wish once your in the correct setting. When I got my boat it was also something like 3'C out, it was easy to fix.
