Perfect Start Routine

Does anybody out there have the perfect pre-start routine and shut-down routine?  I think I have done all the right things in the past, but just bought a 342 and have not yet developed my standard routines.  Any advice?

I've used an acronym to help remember the things to do for a shutdown--as when I leave the boat after being out.  For example, BALK would translate to:  Batteries (off) Antenna (down) Light (off) Key (removed from ignition) You might write up a checkllst that reflects your particular equipment and the steps you want to take--then relist the first letters of each item so they form words/acronyms.   Or to be even more thorough you could make like a pilot.  Use a printed checklist for getting underway and another for shutting down.  Sounds pretty simple but as a guy going on 67 it gives me some reassurance that I'm not forgetting anything!
