Request for Help
Hello All:
This past weekend a neighbor at the marina alerted me that something was running by my aft port side transom. I have a 2004 312 with Merc 5.0, Bravo 3. I was able to get it to stop by shutting down both port and starboard batteries. I have checked and do not believe it to be the fresh water pump or the bilge pump. Rinker provided electrical diagrams are sketchy in diagnosing what systems run off of either batteries let alone both. I'm guessing (by sound) that it may be the trim tab pump.
If anyone has experienced something similar or knows how I could rule out the trim tab pump, please advise.
As always, all responses and suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Mike

Dumb question but can you get into the engine compartment and feel the various pump motors?

I'm assuming it wasn't one of your bilge pumps?? Is your fresh water tank full or empty? Could it have been the fresh water pump?

Thanks. I have cleaned around the bilge for any blockage and have felt the fresh water pump to rule that out. I'll try the trim pump today but it is located in the far upper right just aft of the port engine - tough spot to reach.

you may simply have a stuck float on one of your bilge pumps..
It could be the auto-retract feature for the Lenco trim tabs. When the ignition is shutoff, the tabs automatically retract to the full up position.
