    help me help you... :-) 

    Year and model engine.. makes a difference if pcm controlled mpi engine or thunderbolt controlled carb'd engine... 

    First off, check your breaker... Big red button on top.. 

    Second off, check all your electrical connections... 

    Third off, watch your rpm gauge for movement while turning engine... This would indicate whether the pick up coil, otherwise known as your cam position sensor or cps is working... It provides mapping to the pcm or ignition control as when to fire what cylinder.. They go bad.. it happens.. but, they also get pinched when doing tune ups when swapping caps, too... 

    That oughta get you started in trouble shooting if not find your issue..

    You didn't mention what boat you have but many boats have a "kill" lanyard located at the helm by the shifter/throttle control. When the lanyard is connected, it holds open a switch that when the switched is closed (lanyard removed) , it grounds either the coil (low voltage circuit) or the distributer.
