Drain holes in anchor compartment, not working, FV250.

In the winterization process of my FV 250 2003 I removed the anchor and anchor line from the boat and found that in the anchor compartment the drain holes on starboard and port side are mounted to high. Due to this the compartment never drains completely and a 1 inch deep pool of water is constantly present in the cavity below the holes.

I´m not too happy with this and I´d like to fix it.

As drilling new drain holes a bit lower is not an option. Instead I´m thinking of levelling / filling / out the cavity in the compartment, up to about drain hole level, by pouring in epoxy.

I´m a bit worried though that the heat generated by the epoxy might damage the hull.

Any thoughts on this or better ideas on how to solve the problem?

By drilling a new hole if not done carefully you could damage the exterior gelcoat. If you fill up with epoxy you are not going to damage the hull, but remember that you would loose lot of space in your anchor locker and if you have a windlass the rope and chain could pile up and and jam the windlass. I do have this problem on my 300 and was told to remove 20 feet of anchor rode to cure the problem.

I filled in mine with bondo. Then fiberglassed over it. Painted the locker it looks factory new.

I just cleaned the cavity with acetone and filed it with aprox. 20 cc of polyster up to the level of the drain. The drain in the picture is on the starboard side. No more sea water going bad in there. At least I hope so.
