Shower drain problem.

MarcdohcMarcdohc ✭✭
Hello, My shower drain is not working. The Atwood Sahara S500 pump isn't coming on. The plastic water box is full yet the pump doesn't come on. So I started disassembling it and when the pump was in my hands it came on. Course I thought I wiggled something the right way and fixed it so I resembled it but after filling the drain with water again it didn't come on again. Should I replace it or is it something easy? Thanks, Marc

Does it have a seperate float switch?  They are a common problem. Replace is the way to go.

  • The float switch is getting stuck on mine I clean the gap where the actual float shaft get into the pump with a piece of sandpaper and also the other side of the float near the edge of the casing.  Working good all summer . Cheaper than a new one.
  • White vinegar down the shower drain helps keep the sump clean from soap build up and keeps the sump clean.......

Replace. Cheaper to do this than repair. And it is easy to replace.

  • What can be cheaper than a 10 minutes repair......
  • Ok thanks, I already have it out so I'll replace it and maintain it with vinager. Thanks!
  • My shower sump quit working about 4 moths ago. Checked motor and it was OK. determined the float switch was bad and replaced it and everything fine since.

You have to love the water....

Those float switches are not known for being reliable IMO.  I like the newer (albiet more expensive) ones that are floatless.

Frenchship I agree if it is repairable. The float switch could easily be corroded as well, and that means you just throw the pump away.
