Seat on rear deck

My boat has a seat that someone made for the transom, has anyone mounted a pontoon type seat on the engine hatch? would it make it too hard to lift it? I know i would have to make sure the seat would have to clear the transom.
Im looking for more on deck storage and open to any ideas.

Do it!  The 370 has a rear-facing transom seat, and everybody loves it.  Great for raft-ups and watching fireworks.

I never thought of making it rear facing, i was thinking of getting the arm rests with cup holders too depending on space.

OK, I am still confused.  Are you saying you have an open transom (ie no bench seat at the transom of the boat)?  So you essentially have a wide open deck at the stern of the boat?  Is your engine hatch actuated?  Is the actuator rated for that extra load, including whatever you might decide to put in there (small generator, anchor, water container, etc.)?

Here is the home made seat, yup it has PVC pipe legs and duct tape over the bolts

It looks like there is a hatch right below the seat. I'd think though you could mount it there and make it moveable when you need to get into the hatch.  I agree that it'd be nice to have a somewhat permanent seat there with storage.

Yes my engine room hatch fills the entire deck but i want a nicer seat than that one

Have you seen some of the transom bench seats that are two way - I can't remember if it is regal, cruisers and/or chaparall but one or two of them have transom seats on some models where the bench's seat is fixed but the back support moves on two arms, so that you can sit facing fore or aft. They're really cool and I would think for someone with your ability it would be easy to make. MT

Looks as the previous owner tried to redo the old seat. Except there wasn't pvc used. Guessing your boat is a 1980 something? You could go back to the original style seat same concept as you have

Yes my boat is a 1989, i like the idea of the seat with the back rest being movable

On the movable backs I saw it looked like a two aluminum arms that were powdercoated white and mounted to pivot points. It was rreally useful as you got two benches for the price of one and looked easy to to for a capable person. There are a njumber of them that are electric or fold flat options on springs and runners but that's not waht I liked - I liked the one that appeared real simple - less expensive and way lerss to go wrong. My biggest concern is the weight lifting the engine hatch with the seat on it

It will be heavy plus I would look at strucal strength of the hatch as well

A friend of mine used to have a FV250 around the same year as yours. What he did was got a cooler with a seat on the lid, then had a permanent back attached to the rails. He used a marine cooler and the corner hold downs. It killed 2 birds with one stone... He got a huge cooler for brews and he got a movable seat. It is something to consider...

I like all these suggestions, this is a job that may have to wait till spring, my interior repair has turned into a major remodel, well major for a first timer!
