Barely on topic but when we had the salt water m/v Salt Shaker at Put-in-Bay for a week on our 2010 trip, we got tons of raves both for the good condition of the boat and the fact that we were such dedicated cruisers.
The 290 EC didn't go into production until 2011. The 270EC for 2007 was a limited run, so there are going to be more 280EC's out there. There are some great deals on that era 270's and 280's that are salt water or brackish. My 280 was brackish and she has been good to me so far. The manifolds and risers on the newer mercs are lined in ceramic to prevent most of the corrosion issues that the older ones were known for. I will probably get more life out of the manifolds and risers now that they are in fresh water.

Thanks for the comebacks on the fresh water boats. I will keep them in mind and and still continuing my search. Bought a freshwater Chaparral 27 Signature back in 2001 and it has been good to me but time to move to another newer model. Have the Chaparral up for sale and need to sell first.
