HDS5 in GPS spot on 342

Someone had asked about putting an HDS5 in the GPS spot on the 342 dash. Our 342 came with that combination already installed.  It does hang over a little.  I was under the shrink and got a couple pics because I remembered saying I'd provide some when I could.

Thanks Stodge, it was me asking about mounting the HDS5. I just mounted mine last weekend. I used a piece of Azek (similar to starboard) to build it out about !/2 inch, looks pretty good.

I thought about doing something like that to swap the HDS5 for a Garmin 740, but I've gotten sorta use to the HDS5.  Just have to figure out if there is a way to make it start a new track when it's turned on.  I like to load the track info onto the computer at the end of the season and was disappointed when I saw it had created 1 REALLY long track for the entire season.  I had a Garmin 4208 on the previous boat and if anything it made too many tracks.  But it was easier to "glue" them together than to split apart the one big one with the Lowrance software.

So I contacted someone to make a new instrument cluster to include a vessel view 4.  The GPS, and vessel view will be in front flanked by the multi-gages (oil, temp, gas, volts).  The spot where the GPS was will have a new matching blank with the trims, depth (which I see on the GPS) and a new fume detector.  The clock is going bye-bye.  

Turns out the HDS5 was held in place with 5200.  The new dash layout will allow room for an upgrade to a 7 inch display down the road.  No rush though.

Stodge, so are you buying a VV4 or do you already have one?  Have you compared it to the VV7 or the original vessel view?  Just curious because I have the original one and like, but wonder what the difference is to the vv4.  I also have a buddy with a 342 that wants to add one in, and trying to figure out which one would be best for him.  Could you include part numbers of the smartcraft cabling you had to buy?  Would help out when finding for my friend (aka Eagle's Nest on here) I've gone thru all this twice on my boats and one for someone else, you'd think I know exactly what to get now.  thanks!

I found the VV4 on Ebay.  It included the harness for 2 engines.  I got the impression that the only difference between the 4 and the 7 was the size but I imagine there are some internal differences.   I was a little disappointed that the VV4 only does NMEA 0183 and not NMEA 2000, but no biggie.
