Outdrive problem, need some help

Changing out the impeller today, and the pump housing is trashed the inside if the housing where the shaft passes through is worn oval, there is some play in the shaft, how much play is normal?
Here is the water pump housing, the hole in the plastic part of the housing is not centered with the metal part, was this just badly made?

The hole is off center on purpose, that is how it moves the water.  If the housing where the impeller is worn it needs to be replaced.  There should be no axial room for it to move either or it will not move water.  This is a great upgrade:

Sorry this is the pump in my outdrive, the link you gave me im guessing thats for a pump on the engine because its talking about a pully?

I think I have an alpha 1? There is no serial number on the sticker for me to check

Yes, Alpha 1 pump is in the lower unit.

Awesome video, my cup has rotated inside the housing because my key is on the wrong side and not centered so that really helped me understand why the hole was not lining up with the cup. Thanks Frenchship!

As you could see does not  take much to destroy  those pump when run dry even for a very few minutes
