Handy, on the bravo111 the zerk is at that location but the actual passage for the grease goes up to about the middle where the gimbal brg is located. So yours could be located higher.
This is where I believe the swivel shaft zerk was once installed on late alphas. The gimbal housing was different on Alpha ones, and those definitely had a zerk for the swivel shaft. It wouldn't do much for lubricity but should minimize corrosion. You can see there is a dimple already there.
Really?? I have two brand new drives (like OEM delivery ready to go) and anything else they touched while they were in there (ie gimbal bearing, coupler, shift cable...).
On my relatively new Merc 350MAG, you can't grease the gimbal bearing anymore (according to my mechanic). Apperently the unit is closed and doesn't need to be greased??
MarkB, Is right the newer gimbal brg are seal no need to grease them up, is it better than the old one time will tell . Myself I prefer the one that can be grease up.
Yep, I agree with all said & it is what I have now on both drives. My mechanic has been installing them for quite a while and feel they are much better.
Same as a lot of the front end parts on cars. OEM manufacturers went to "lifetime" seals and the cr*p started failing. Moog and some others offered greaseable parts and everyone replaced what they could.

even if you install a grease fitting it would not work, the new gimbal brg has no hole into it to accept the grease

So this zerk is for the gimbal and so is the one on the inside. Correct? There is NO zerk for the swivel shaft
