Horizon 600 Windlass rode issue

I replaced my windlass rode over the winter.  In the process I loosened up the gypsy to feed in the rope and chain.  The replacement I got has 1/4 inch chain and 1/2 inch braided rope versus the 3 strand rope the previous rope had.  I'm having trouble getting the rope the grip.  

So do I need to get the more common 3 strand rope or is it just a matter of getting the gypsy tighter?

I had the same issue and just went to all chain. Your gypsy takes a special size rode. If its not correct it will bind or slip.

Does anyone know if the speed can be adjusted on the windless? Mine pulls up the rope just fine but then the chain jumps so you need to use the windless in ‘spurts’ for lack of a better term.

When the chain is in the Gypsy, look very carefully on how it sits in the grooves. If its not tight and has a lot of play it may be the wrong chain. Mine jumps a little but I dont stop the Windlass.

The manual will specify the correct size chain.  The horizon 600 manual called for 1/4 inch chain and 1/2 inch rope.   I have a feeling my rope is too squishy.

And you can adjust the gypsy by tightening the big nut.

I plan to try tightening mine some more before I go buy different rode.

Does the big nut draw the Gypsy closer together? Is it sprung loaded in some way?

Yes it does Richard.

I contacted Lewmar support and they confirmed that the double braided rope is NOT recommended.  Ugh, time to buy new rode......again.  Right after I get the model number off the gypsy to confirm the size of rope and chain I need.

that sucks bc that windlass rode isn't cheap....

I bought my rope from Lewmar and it broke the plastic gypsy thing twice and kept getting tangled up. So I got all chain.

I considered all chain, but 200 foot of 1/4 inch chain is expensive and REALLY heavy.
