342 air horn installation

I have a couple of questions regarding installing an air horn on our 342. (The stock horn is quite wimpy)

1.  Is the horn switch rated for 20amp

2.  Where would the best place be to pickup power?  I wondered if I could use the existing power supply and change out the 5amp breaker with a 20

I installed mine on the radar arch, as I mentioned in the other thread.  The one I have now on the foredeck has a built-in compressor, and seems to work better.

Either way, make sure the horns are pointed down so they won't collect water.

I purchased AFI Full Blast Dual. It has a small compressor, about the size of a coke can.  I was thinking of mounting on the side of the boat on the helm side. That way I could mount the compressor in the cavity behind the instrument panel, which would be a short run for the tubing and close to power source and button. Theonly downside I see is blast being close to the helm. Any other thoughts or suggestions.

What about the side of the  foredeck in front of windshield away from helm and I would think it would be out of the way and not as loud at the helm just my 2cents

I had the AFI on my 342.  Most later models use the Ongaro horn, which doesn't have a separate compressor.  Both sound great and are very loud.  

If you mount it on the side, make sure it's not going to interfere with the walkway.  My 370 has it mounted on the side of the foredeck.  It gets in the way every now and then, but mostly I don't notice it.

One thing with the AFI:  assume that you'll occasionally get some rain or spray splashed into the hose.  If it drains directly into the compressor, the compressor will eventually corrode and fail.  Mount the compressor with the hose pointed down so any water will collect at the lowest point of the hose rather than dripping into the compressor.

Air Horns are installed and sounding great. Installation wasn't that bad and could locate small compressor inside cockpit dash panel for ease in running tubing and connecting to existing switch. Swapped out 5a fuse for 20a and spiced into power wire (Orange) on switch and works like a charm.
