Engine hatch lubrication

Engine hatch on my '08 320 seems to be running slowly at times and making some squeaking noises. Is this most likely a grease/lubrication problem or is the motor about to give up the ghost? If the former, what is best way to lube the shaft (using what lube)? I've attached a pic in case a visual inspection is helpful. Thanks.

There is a grease fitting at the bottom by the gearbox/motor.  Any lithium based (GP) will do. Give it a few shots and run it.  If it does not get better it is replacement time. Nothing worth servicing inside it yourself.

Every year I spary some wd40 on the shaft, after the winter months it is always slow and squeaky, after a few sprays and opening and closing its good to go.
