Replacing VHF - Got a Hole to Fill

I am replacing my original VHF with a Standard Horizon GX2200 that includes both GPS and AIS built into the unit. The new functionality makes the original placement of the radio less than ideal so I am going to be mounting the radio on the dash closer to eye level.

Any thoughts on something to cover the original hole with that won't look completely awful???

Try and find either an aluminum cover plate or poly propylene sheet. Don't try and gel coat as it will be difficult to match up.

Here's an idea. Keep the old transceiver as a backup/spare.
