Mystery piece of wood

While trying to find the source of my wet interior carpet I found this "floating" piece of wood about 1-1/2'x6" in the shape of a football (like a mini surfboard).  It's roaming around in front of the shower pump box in that compartment. I can't get it out with that box there but I guess I could remove that box and get it out if i needed to.  Just wondering what the heck it's for or if it's important and has come loose.

Probably a scrap piece left behind during building. I'd take it out just because, personally.

Yeah, I've never seen anything like that as part of the boat.  Maybe it's an improvised tool used by the carpet installers.  Take it out.  It's just one more place to collect moisture and badness.

It looks like a filler from a piece of plywood. Next time you go to a home improvement store look at a piece of plywood, they use football shaped pieces to patch blemishes in the wood.

Larea, as I'm reading your post it dawned on me that it might be the cutout from a window.  I'll have to pull it out and hold it up next to it to see if the size matches up.

 cutout from the window would definitely make sense.  Looks a little big to be what aero is talking about.  I think you need to take it and paint or stain it and put a little saying on it (ie - home is better by the water) with a little string thru the back and hang it on the boat!  Then you can comment where it came from!

I'm surprised that the windows are cut out after the hull is assembled. Even more surprised that an experienced craftsman would not account for it and it ends up in the bilge.
Gotta wonder what other deficiencies exist.

True...harsh environment.  Which makes me wonder if there are other things (besides accounting for all the parts) that get overlooked.
