And The Hits Just Keep on Coming - Leak from Port Engine Steering Pin Seal

Put the boat in the water after getting caught up on a few maintenance items - broken swim platform strut, trim tabs not working, and not being able to raise or lower the port engine all for about $2k.

The boat was in the water just in time for the 4th of July weekend and the temp alarm went off on the way to the fuel dock...$350 later got that fixed just in time to notice I seemed to be picking up a lot of water in the bilge. Pump going on every 20 minutes or so.

Tech took a look today and let me know that I have a leak coming from the port engine steering pin seal...and...wait for it....another $2k repair bill. Boat will have to be pulled.

If one is leaking good chance that the other one will follow soon. If you are a DIY person it can be done a lot cheaper with a few special tools and the JR marine repair kit . Search on this forum for Steering shaft leaking.

Starboard side should be check too. They all are going to go bad

Just wait till after the season. A little water in the bilge is no big deal

The problem with the leaking shaft is the water that stay in the cut out for the steering arm
and that part is not sealed so water can get into the substrate.
