Chain locker

Still have the same problem with my anchor rode and chain piling up and jamming my windlass. I did follow Al advice and remove 10 feet of rope but still same problem. Does anybody has the same problem with a 300 express 2007. The rope and chain are standard equipements .

Could it be from twist in the chain?  Do you have a swivel between the anchor and chain?

I do not have a swivel , maybe that could help I will give it a try. Since anything else work.It is a pain every time I pull the anchor up I have to go to the chain locker behind the mirror and spread the rope around so it does not pile up.

find some really deep water and let all the rode and chain out. verifying prior that the end of the rode is secured to the boat of course. put it in reverse idle and start pulling in your anchor. if there is any twist, that should straighten it out. a swivel will always help in the future but if you don't unwind the twist in the rode, it will still cause problems. just a thought.

I have a Rinker 300 2006, don't have this problem but I had the same problem in a Chaparral 300, rope mite be to dry, solution is to let it sit for a couple of hours in clothe softener.  Other solution is to buy a new one.

If you need to replace the line, I  recomend 8-plait over 3-strand. It is softer so it layes better, takes up less room, and holds more water, making it heavier and packing it down.

The advice to find a deep spot to play-out your entire chain and rode is golden. that has helped more people including me. I also installed a swivel and that really helped - no problems since. All chain is of course always better as it really helps an anchor stay set. If you have the room and can handle the significant amount of 100 extra feet of chain - go for the chain - just watch which type of chain you buy to match what you have and what your windless is set to draw-up. There are a number of chain sizes, thicknesses and proofs.

Thanks guys for all that Infos. I will look into this and keep you posted. Regarding that swivel it seems from reading about it that is something that is not recommended being the weakest link into the rode and chain system...........

Frenchship you can purchase swivels of a quality that will match the loads of G4 chain. Just letting your rode unfurl once in awhile should work fine, if not you could try a cheap swivel to see if it helps and if it does put the $ down for a high strength one.
